This is the second bike I bought. I thought having only one bike isn't enough. I'm a girl, after all, and I like my accessories to match my wardrobe. Kidding, man, but I admit that I do colour-match sometimes. Why not? Gives me a good excuse to ride all my bikes. So this one I won on eBay for 31 pounds. There was only this one little picture in the listing,
but I though I can't go wrong with that price. It turned out to be a 100% original 22" '76 Aerospace Sport. And that all in pretty good nick; the chain was pretty new, and someone had tinkered with the bottom bracket. It doesn't sit perfectly, but it rides well nonetheless.
I gave it my Brooks Professional saddle and white handlebar tape. Yes, tried it again. Fitted new cables, the wheels were trued and I got some Olympic 64 pedals from my Viscount friend John.

I only made this road-safe for the time being. Over the winter, I will strip the bike, clean everything, try and sit the spindle correctly, and get the tatty parts and fork re-chromed. Like Shawn, it's an every day bike.
I have a blue Aerospace Sport as well as a Sebring. The Sebring is in the shop getting a road-worthy tune up. Beautiful bikes with a special following.
ReplyDeleteBlimey, Scott! I didn't even see the comment until now. Blogger doesn't alert me. Very sorry.
DeleteYes, the bikes are absolutely stunning and a pleasure to ride. Welcome to the club. :-) I think you're on the CTC forum, right? If not, hello, nice to meet you. You do know about the rally, right? Please come along.
Wow! I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI've had my blue Viscount Aerospace Sport since I bought it new around 1975. I had it cleaned up a couple of years ago by a smirking bike shop guy. It's still a great bike - it's in much better shape than I am after 40 years!
Hi, Timothy. Thank you for stopping by. I'm so glad you like the blog and even more glad that there's yet another Viscount fan. :-) They're fantastic bikes, aren't they?
DeleteChainset looks like 70's Sugino maxi. For some strange reason I now own 4 Aerospace's a Sport a GP and 2 Pro's, I wanted one for my collection as they were pretty fashionable when I was a kid now I can't get enough of them
ReplyDeletePs anyone know what thread the bottom bracket axle bolts use ?. Paul
DeleteHi I have the same model in the same blue livery. Still in occasionally use. Purchased 1976 autumn. At some stage I replaced the tubes with a solid rubber tube and I can claim not to have had a puncture in 35 years . This was before slime filled tubes became available. But hard on the joints though...
ReplyDeleteGreat article. I bought the exact same bike when I was 14/15 after saving up from caddying at £2 a round. It cost £60. The bike was a unknown brand but much higher spec than better known brands. Nobody had heard of Shimano! I recognised all the parts.
