My red flash

Which, in other words, is a ruby red Aerospace Sport from 1976. It recently occurred to me that I've never really made a page for it. So with this one I'll rectify this.

The frame was given to me by Steve, the Viscount and Lambert expert and general great bloke, he'd stripped it, checked it all over, got it powder coated to factory standards back then, fitted the bottom bracket and applied the transfers. I took the parts from Shawn, who has a split in his seat tube, cleaned them all, then put them on the frame. It's the most perfect bike I've ever ridden: the perfect size (22 inches), the perfect set up and, of course, the perfect wheels--built by my very own two hands. The first ones I'd ever built back in October last year (2013) and they're still doing fine.

Mafac front brake

Shimano Tourney GS long cage derailleur. Sexy!

SR Apex crank set and Shimano 60 front mech
Beautiful fillet brazing. Need some proper cable clips, though.
Bilston made the best fillet brazing.
NOS Shimano cable guide. Bling!
I've enjoyed a lot of great rides on this bike and it's the most in use. Originally, I'd planned to only take it out on sunny days, but since it's such a great joy to ride it, it quickly became the main bike. Although, after replacing the (broken) stem of the blue Sport with a shorter (85mm) stem, and fitting new handlebar tape, as well as cleaning it up and servicing the brakes, I change between the two of them.

  1. A colleague of mine bought this, the superior model to the sport in 1976... I had purchased the slightly cheaper blue sports model two weeks earlier.. His had a wider set of gear ratios. He got highly enthusiastic for long distance cycling and after a few months practice completed a 22 HR journey from Dublin city Ireland to castlegregory co Kerry , Ireland ... Google it..
